Add an extra power sourceJul 19, 2012
I planned to hard-wire a usb power jack in my 2005 3-series dash. Meanwhile, while looking for a phone/music adapter I found this power adapter. It's a BMW accessory, not aftermarket. I bought this one through Amazon. (One trip to the dealer to check accessory prices had me gasping for breath!) This one arrived quickly and works like a charm. Just plug it into the flashlight socket in the glove box and gain a cigarette lighter style socket on a cable. Adapt that as needed. It works really well, and the price is right. Of course you lose the charging source for the BMW flashlight. I find current LED flashlights far superior anyway.

Works GreatSep 29, 2009
By A. Waldauer
I ordered this item for use in my 530i and it works great.
The port inside of the glove box appears to be powered at all times even though I read that it only stays active for approx. 30 minutes after the car was turned off.
I'm using the adapter to power and charge my TomTom GPS.

Works great for my Sirius Starmate 5 playerFeb 10, 2011
By J L Blair
This device is a dream. I went from wire hell to a clean Sirius setup stashed away in my 2000 323i. Contrary to the reviewer that said their circuit remains on all the time, the model BMW I have will turn this circuit off when I lock the car. I never leave my car unlocked so this setup works fine. Love it!
That being said, here is how I use this product:
I took a small specialty box that fits in my glove compartment when closed. I happened to find a sturdy box that came with an award/trophy. I then cut out a square the size of the Starmate 5 radio, mounted the radio inside, bundled and stashed the wires behind the radio, close up the box, and it all fits in my glove compartment. The Sirius antenna sits in the right corner of the dash and the wire goes a couple feet down into the glove. When I drive, I open the glove and use the remote to change channels. Oh yeah, and I use the FM frequency to connect to the radio. The reception is fine for talk radio, but I will use a tape adapter if I wish to have higher quality sound for music, etc, but means more wires.

Extra 12V inputApr 21, 2010

This cable turns your the plug where you would charge your flashlight into another 12V slot, it has come in handy. Very good quality cable.
Does what it says it doesSep 28, 2010

No complaints, just works.
I used it on my 2007 BMW 3 series convertible to put in an additional charging socket in my glove box. Just plugs in where the flashlight was.
One thing to note --- and I'm assuming this is true for all cars, it was in mine. The circuit is always set to on, so it continues to charge even after the vehicle has been turned off. You might want this (i.e. phone charger), you might not (i.e. GPS). It will obviously drain the battery if not careful.
